Harlan, a teenager from Wyoming, forms an unlikely bond with his Puerto Rican exchange student roommate Caesar, who introduces him to the world of Salsa music and dancing. After a traumatic event in his family, Harlan decides to leave his hometown and drive to LA to pursue his newfound passion and live with Caesar. Along the way, he meets Jude, but their encounter takes a deadly turn when two hitmen arrive, and Jude is killed. Harlan discovers Jude's bag in his car, which puts him in the crosshairs of the hitmen. In LA, Harlan auditions for a Salsa band, despite being the only white member, and returns home to find a cop waiting for Caesar, who has fled to New York City.
