In the English town of Bad Trad, a generational battle erupts over the perceived disruption of jazz music, deemed popular by teenagers. The mayor, leading the charge against the genre, passes an ordinance requiring licenses to broadcast jazz. Helen and Craig, the teenage protagonists, organize a jazz music festival to prove its non-disruptive nature. With the help of an off-screen narrator, they travel to the city to find a disc jockey to book acts for the festival. However, the mayor's efforts to stop them intensify, and Helen and Craig must use political cunning to achieve their goal.
