In 2003, author John Pearson interviews elderly individuals connected to the Clermont Club, a Mayfair casino run by ruthless John Aspinall. The club's main client is John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan, who consistently loses and seeks to discredit his wife's sanity to gain custody of their children. After accidentally killing his nanny, Lucan goes on the run, and Aspinall demands the club members protect him. However, one member, Dominic Elwes, refuses and writes an article exposing the club, leading to his social isolation and eventual suicide. Lucan is found guilty of the crimes, and in his absence, his fate remains uncertain, with some believing he was thrown overboard or killed himself.
