Gru, a fanboy of the Vicious 6, grows up in the 1970s suburbs with his loyal Minion followers, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto. They build their first lair, experiment with weapons, and pull off missions. Gru tries to join the Vicious 6 after their leader, Wild Knuckles, is ousted, but it doesn't go well. Gru outsmarts them, becoming their mortal enemy. On the run, he seeks guidance from Wild Knuckles, learning that even bad guys need help from friends.
