Outlaw Jesse James, along with his brother Frank James, Cole Younger, and other associates, forms a gang and begins robbing small banks and stagecoaches in the Midwest and Missouri. As their criminal activity grows, they target bigger prizes, such as larger banks and trains, attracting the attention of railroad company owners who hire the Pinkerton Detective Agency to capture them. A war ensues between the Pinkerton Agency and the James-Younger gang, often putting innocent civilians in harm's way.
