Calamity Jane and a secret agent go undercover as a married couple to catch a gunrunner selling weapons to the Indians. When the agent is killed, Jane finds a new partner in "Painless" Peter Potter, a bumbling dentist and coward who wants to escape the Wild West. Despite Potter's ineptitude, Jane's marksmanship saves the day, and she gives him credit, making him an unlikely hero and target for the Indians and gunrunners.
