College freshman Walter Gibson embarks on a cross-country road trip to California during winter break, expecting a romantic encounter with a bikini-clad girl his friend has promised him. However, his plans take an unexpected turn when he meets Allison, a charming but slightly clingy girl from his college, who is also heading to California to visit her boyfriend. As they face various challenges on their journey, Gib and Allison discover that they have a pleasant companionship and must now decide what to do about Gib's initial "sure thing" plan.
