Edward Shore, former Home Secretary, reports to Inspector Whicher that his son Charles is being threatened by an Indian named Asim, who was traveling with his brother Roshan. Asim's body is later found in the docks, and Charles denies involvement in the murder. Roshan accuses Charles, leading to an altercation, and Charles's children are then abducted.
