A US Navy fast attack submarine is attacked and nearly sunk by a stealth submarine off North Korea, resulting in the deaths of the Executive Officer and Engineering Officer. Captain Commander Burt Habley faces a court-martial but is instead chosen to lead a top secret mission to tap a North Korean underwater communications cable. He must protect his boat and crew from the phantom submarine while completing the mission.
