Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dent received her training at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts. Her film debut in 1994 marked a significant milestone, as she played Paul Newman's daughter-in-law in Robert Benton's Nobody's Fool (1994). Since then, she has appeared in a diverse range of features, including Auto Focus (2002) opposite Greg Kinnear, Replicant (2001) alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, Someone Like You (2001) with Ashley Judd, and The Majestic (2001) alongside Jim Carrey.
