After the Civil War, a renegade named Rollins tries to disrupt the friendship between settlers and Native Americans as they head west. Apache chief Winnetou and his friend Old Shatterhand work to maintain peace, but Rollins' henchmen try to keep Winnetou from the Jicarillos' chief, White Buffalo.
