A scientist, Dylan Hunt, puts himself into suspended animation in 1979 to test the process and potentially revive astronauts. He remains asleep for 154 years, until 2133, when he wakes up to find a world ravaged by war and a new society, the Pax, dedicated to preserving humanity. However, the Tyranians, a group of mutants, seek to exploit Dylan's knowledge to rebuild their nuclear generator and dominate the world.
