A bittersweet comedy set in 1984, during the era of 'practical socialism', follows Bedrich Mára, a former teacher at Prague's Academy of Art, who has been forced to give up his job due to political reasons. He and his family, including his wife and two sons, struggle to make ends meet in a small apartment on the outskirts of Prague. In contrast, the school principal, Míla Brecka, and his family have thrived under the socialist regime, justifying their actions by claiming they must "swim along" to make things better.
