Sophie Lang, a reformed jewel thief, escapes to California to evade the New York City police. She hides on a train where she meets film writer Eddie Rollyn, who is working on a story for film star Helga Roma. Rollyn agrees to help Sophie hide from the police if she helps him with his story. Meanwhile, Detective Archie Banks is on the train guarding the Sultan of Padaya's precious gem, the "Star of the World."
