The Forty-Niners background

The Forty-Niners

In the lawless gold rush territories of California, a lone marshal assumes a dual identity to infiltrate the world of notorious outlaws and uncover the truth behind the brutal murder of a fellow lawman.

U.S. Marshal Sam Nelson, posing as Sam Smith, infiltrates a California gold-boom town to uncover the identities of three killers. He forms a partnership with card shark Alf Billings, who suggests they team up due to their complementary skills: Billings' card expertise and Sam's marksmanship. Billings leads Sam to Sheriff William Norris and Ernie Walker, suspects in the murder case Sam is investigating.
