A stranger assumes the identity of a deceased postal inspector and enters a small western town, only to discover a stagecoach robbery in progress. The gang of outlaws, initially thought to be targeting a strongbox, reveals their true motive: stealing a solid gold stagecoach. The stranger teams up with a down-on-his-luck preacher to track down the gang and their unexpected ally.
