In a small northern town, spring arrives, bringing new beginnings and possibilities. For 14-year-old Sam, however, this year is different. As her friends focus on boys, drugs, and self-discovery, Sam struggles to fit in, feeling too self-conscious to shed her bathing suit. After a mistake lands her in trouble, Sam is forced to work at her mother's retirement home, where she forms unexpected friendships with two residents who teach her valuable lessons about growing up and growing old.
