Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who embarks on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage to honor his son's memory after he is killed in a storm. Tom, inexperienced as a trekker, meets other pilgrims from around the world, each seeking greater meaning in their lives, and forms an unlikely bond with them. Along the way, Tom learns what it means to be a citizen of the world again and discovers the difference between the life he lived and the life he chooses.
