Windtalkers background

Windtalkers

In the midst of World War II, a pair of U.S. Marine Corps sentries safeguard a group of Navajo-speaking Marines who devise an impenetrable radio cipher based on their indigenous tongue.

During World War II, the US military developed a secret communication code using the Navajo language to secure communication among American forces. The Navajo code talkers, recruited from the Navajo Nation, would transmit messages to other units using the code, rendering enemy intercepts unintelligible. To safeguard the code, men were assigned to protect it at all costs. The story follows Joe Enders, a soldier who miraculously avoids being deemed unfit for duty despite a serious injury, and his mission to protect Ben Yahzee, a fellow code talker, while they learn to put aside their initial differences.
