Aaron McGrath is a renowned Indigenous Australian actor who hails from a small town in the central west plains of New South Wales, Australia. Born in 1996, he grew up in Redfern, Sydney, and graduated from Lewisham Christian Brothers in 2013. Represented by T&E Management, he has made a significant impact on screens both nationally and internationally, appearing in a wide range of projects.
Aaron's breakthrough role came in 2012 when he played Joel Shields on the hit Australian TV series Redfern Now. His success continued with other notable TV credits, including The Gods of Wheat Street, In Your Dreams, The Code, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, The Secret River, Ready For This, Doctor Doctor, Mystery Road, KGB, Thalu, Black Comedy, and Glitch Series 1, 2, and 3.
In 2013, Aaron made his feature film debut in Around the Block alongside Christina Ricci. His major cinematic breakthrough came when he worked with Indigenous director Rachel Perkins, alongside Australian legends Hugo Weaving and Toni Collette, in the title role of Jasper Jones (2017). The film, based on the book of the same title, deals with racial inequality and has been dubbed Australia's 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. The film received seven AACTA nominations.
Aaron's subsequent major role was playing Private Brian Hornung in Danger Close (2019),an Australian war film about The Battle of Long Tan. His other credits include short films Destiny In The Dirt, Jackey Jackey, Brown Lips, and Miro, as well as performances in The Yellamundie Festival, National Play Festival, Short Blacks Workshop, and theatre production Black Cockatoo for The Ensemble in Sydney 2020.
Aaron is also an Ambassador for Deadly Choices, a health and lifestyle program for young Indigenous Australians.
