Alan, a seasoned educator and writer, spent eight years as the Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Calgary, prior to which he served as the head of the Communications/Media Department for several years.
During World War II, Alan bravely served as a Captain of a PBY Catalina "Flying Boat" with a crew of nine, and later penned his experiences in his novel "The Last Generation". His subsequent novel, "Those Who Can", chronicled his years as a teacher and actor following the war.
Alan's academic credentials are impressive, with degrees from the University of London, England (Education),University of Alberta (Education),University of Colorado, and Carnegie Institute of Technology (Drama). He also played a pivotal role in the early development of Educational Television in Canada.
After retiring as Dean, Alan relocated to Vancouver, where he frequently appeared in film and television productions. He later moved to Vancouver Island in 1998. Sadly, Alan passed away on November 24, 2009, at the age of 86.
