Alexandra's illustrious career in film, television, theatre, and voiceover has spanned over three and a half decades, with her journey beginning in England where she studied various forms of dance and theatre. She honed her craft at Laine Theatre Arts and Drama Studio, London, before making the move to the United States in 1989, where she resided for nearly two decades.
She initially made her mark in the film industry with a role in Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) alongside Richard Dreyfuss. During her time in Los Angeles, she caught the attention of James Cameron, who cast her in the iconic film Titanic after she wrote a monologue for her audition. Additionally, she secured a series regular role in the long-running soap Coronation Street and lent her voice to the cult video game, Tales of Monkey Island.
In 2011, Alexandra transitioned into directing, writing, and producing, with her award-winning short film, Boxer on the Wilderness (2014),garnering a successful festival run and serving as a teaser for her feature screenplay, The Wilderness. She went on to direct her award-winning debut feature, Widow's Walk (2019),a ghost story set in Suffolk, which stars Miranda Raison, David Caves, and Virginia McKenna. The supernatural thriller premiered on Amazon Prime in the UK/EU in December 2019.
In 2020, Alexandra co-founded Artemisia's Daughters, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring the next generation of female filmmakers. The organization shot its first short film in July 2022, and Alexandra also hosts the Artemisia's Daughters podcast, Fierce Female Filmmakers, where she engages with other women carving a path in the film industry.
Most recently, Alexandra completed her first documentary feature, Ship of Dreams: Titanic Movie Diaries, in 2023.
