Ayesha Hameed is a multifaceted artist and scholar who explores the intricate relationships between sound, image, water, violence, and history through a variety of mediums, including videos, audio essays, and performance lectures.
Her work delves into the concept of an active archive, where these elements are intertwined and serve as a catalyst for critical thinking and analysis. Furthermore, she examines the notion of time travel as a historical method, allowing her to navigate and make sense of complex historical narratives.
Ayesha's artistic endeavors have been showcased in several prominent exhibitions, including the Liverpool Biennale in 2020, the Gothenburg Biennale in 2019, the Lubumbashi Biennale in 2019, and the Dakar Biennale in 2018.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Ayesha is also a published author and co-editor of the book "Futures and Fictions" released in 2017 by Repeater. She is also co-authoring the forthcoming book "Visual Cultures as… Time Travel" to be published by Sternberg in 2020.
Currently, Ayesha serves as the Co-Programme Leader of the PhD in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths University of London, further solidifying her influence in the academic and artistic communities.
