Born in Houston, Texas, Bart J. Mixon embarked on a career in special make-up effects, initially working on local independent productions. As his skills and reputation grew, he began to secure employment as a laboratory technician and on-set make-up artist on projects such as A Nightmare On Elm Street, Part 2; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2; and Robocop.
In 1987, Bart made the significant decision to relocate to Los Angeles, and shortly thereafter, he was supervising the special make-up and creature effects for notable projects including Fright Night Part 2 and Stephen King's It. Throughout his career, Bart has served as the shop foreman for esteemed effects houses such as Rick Baker's Cinovation Studios, the Chiodo Brothers Productions, and Fantasy II Film FX's in-house make-up lab, Make-up FX Unlimited.
Bart co-founded the make-up effects studio, Mixon and Ellis FX, in 1994, alongside his partner. For a period of four years, ME-FX created make-ups and creatures for a diverse range of projects, including Men In Black, Peter Benchley's The Beast, Fargo, and Rushmore.
In recent years, Bart has taken on the roles of project coordinator and/or make-up artist on a variety of films, including The Grinch, Planet of the Apes, Men in Black II, The Ring and The Ring Two, Hellboy, and X-Men 3.
Bart has been an active member of Make-up Artists Local 706 since 1994 and is also a SAG puppeteer.
