Benedict Cumberbatch's career began to take shape immediately after graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2009. He was swiftly cast in several prominent Australian television shows, including the children's series "My Place" where he played the role of Hammer Pirovic, and the popular soap opera "Home & Away" as Michael. He also appeared in "Paper Giants: The Birth Of Cleo" alongside other notable actors.
In 2011, Benedict made his theatre debut in the Malthouse production of "Tis Pity She's A Whore", directed by Marion Potts and Judith's Kiss in the Bondi Pavilion Theatre. He returned to the stage in 2013, starring in Tanya Goldberg's experimental play "The Blind Date Project".
In 2012, Benedict landed a significant role as Jonah in the Matchbox tele-movie "Underground: The Julian Assange Story", directed by Robert Connolly. The following year, he made his feature film debut in the indie film "Asthma", directed by Jake Hoffman.
