Beulah Archuletta, a talented actress, gained recognition for her pivotal role as "Look" in John Ford's iconic film, The Searchers (1956). Born Beulah Donahue on August 24, 1909, in Phoenix, Arizona, she was a proud member of the Gila River Indian Community.
Her mother, Lillian Johns, was of Maricopa (Pee-Posh) descent, while her father, Lawrence Donahue, who passed away in 1922, was from the Klamath tribe in northern California. Raised in a Presbyterian household, Beulah was one of eight siblings.
She attended the prestigious Phoenix Indian School and graduated in 1929. Beulah married Santiago "Sandy" Archuletta in 1934, and the couple had two children, James (1935-2003) and Arlene (1939-2010).
Throughout her career, Beulah mostly appeared as an extra or background actor, but she did secure minor roles in Wagon Train (1957) and The Searchers (1956). Her final film appearance was as an extra in the epic Western, How the West Was Won (1962).
Tragically, Beulah Archuletta passed away on October 28, 1969, at the age of 60, in Los Angeles. Despite her relatively short time in the spotlight, her legacy lives on through her remarkable performance in The Searchers.
