Bill was born and raised in the North-East town of Middlesbrough, situated in the vicinity of the North Yorkshire border, and began his training at the Guildford drama school in the early 1980s.
Throughout his extensive theatre career, Bill has had the privilege of playing a wide range of roles, including Mickey in the West End production of Blood Brothers, alongside the talented Stephanie Lawrence, Tony Harrison's Trackers at the Royal National Theatre, and Pastoral at the Soho Theatre.
Bill has made numerous television appearances, with some of his most recent credits including Ted Lasso, starring the charismatic Jason Sudeikis, This Time with Alan Partridge, starring the hilarious Steve Coogan, Vera, featuring the esteemed Brenda Blethyn, the highly acclaimed drama Broadchurch, alongside the talented Olivia Colman, and the multi award-winning Downton Abbey, opposite the renowned Phyllis Logan. He has also had starring roles in Alan Bleasdale's Monicled Mutineer, alongside the accomplished Paul McGann, Hallmark's Blackbeard, featuring the esteemed Stacy Keach and Jessica Chastain, and the role of Stu Carpenter in Coronation Street for ITV.
In addition to his television work, Bill has also appeared in a variety of films, including Lady Macbeth, starring the talented Florence Pugh, Final Score, featuring the renowned Pierce Brosnan, The Tournament, alongside the accomplished Robert Carlyle, In Our Name, featuring the talented Joanne Froggatt, United, the story of the Munich air disaster, with the esteemed Jack O'Connell and David Tennant, Harrigan, starring the talented Stephen Tompkinson, and Extremis, featuring the accomplished David O'Hara.
