Billy Chew's professional journey in documentary filmmaking commenced at the Center for Public Television & Radio, situated in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, prior to his relocation to Los Angeles in the year 2010.

His notable film, The Gleam, is an interactive documentary that he co-directed alongside Daniel Scheinert. This cinematic masterpiece made its debut at the prestigious 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, garnering widespread recognition and acclaim. Furthermore, it was also featured at the immersive storytelling program, Convergence, during the 54th New York Film Festival in 2016, solidifying its reputation as a groundbreaking work in the field of documentary filmmaking.
