Bob May, the offspring of Chic Johnson's daughter June, emerged into the world of entertainment in 1941, when he took the stage for the first time, substituting for a midget in the comedy troupe "Sons-a-Fun". May's professional journey continued to unfold as he collaborated with the renowned duo Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson on a variety of live television programs, including the popular "Fireball Fun-for-All", "All-Star Revue", and "The Colgate Comedy Hour". Not only was May a skilled singer, but also a charismatic dancer, whose talents were showcased in some of Elvis Presley's early cinematic endeavors and several films featuring the renowned comedian Jerry Lewis.
May's extensive background in the entertainment industry ultimately led him to submit his application for the position of stunt double for the renowned Red Buttons in the 1966 film production of Stagecoach.
However, fate had other plans, as May was unexpectedly offered the pivotal role of the Environmental Control Robot in the groundbreaking 20th Century-Fox television series Lost in Space, which premiered in 1965.
As a key member of the show's cast, May was responsible for operating the Robot, while the talented Dick Tufeld provided its distinctive voice, bringing the character to life in a way that captivated audiences and left a lasting impression.
May, along with his loving wife and their delightful children, embarked on a nationwide journey, presenting a theatrical extravaganza aptly titled "Funs-a-Bustin", which served as a heartwarming tribute to the inimitable comedic legacy of the Olsen & Johnson duo.
