Carl Hiaasen, a renowned journalist and author, earned his degree from the University of Florida's School of Journalism in 1974. He began his professional journey at the Miami Herald in 1976, initially working on the city desk before transitioning to the Sunday magazine and investigative team. As his career progressed, he became a respected columnist and remained with the Herald until his retirement in 2021.
Throughout his illustrious writing career, Hiaasen has penned over 25 books, including novels such as "Tourist Season," "Double Whammy," "Strip Tease," and "Bad Monkey," as well as several books geared towards younger readers.
One of his notable works, "Strip Tease," served as the inspiration for the 1996 film adaptation, Striptease, starring Demi Moore and Burt Reynolds. Additionally, his first children's novel, "Hoot," was brought to life on the big screen in 2006, featuring an all-star cast including Brie Larson, Logan Lerman, and Luke Wilson.
Beyond his literary accomplishments, Hiaasen has also collaborated on musical projects, co-writing the lyrics to three songs with the late Warren Zevon: "Rottweiler Blues," "Seminole Bingo," and "Basket Case." Furthermore, he co-authored the song "Fish Porn" on Jimmy Buffett's final album, alongside Buffett and Mac McAnally.
