Catherine von Schell, born Katherina Freiin Schell vonBauschlott, is the scion of a once wealthy German patrician family. Her father, Baron Paul Schell von Bauschlott, was a well-respected diplomat until the Nazis confiscated their estates during World War II. Her mother, Countess Katharina Maria Etelka Georgina Elisabeth Teleki de Szék, was a member of a noble family.
