Jun-Chi Chang, a renowned filmmaker, was born in Taipei in 1980. His creative endeavors span across film, television series, and commercials, showcasing a diverse and dynamic style. Chang's career began with documentary filmmaking, where he honed his skills by collecting ideas from daily life and transforming them into fresh perspectives. His exceptional instinct for capturing characters' emotions has been a hallmark of his work.
Chang's breakthrough came in 2006 when his documentary, "My Football Summer," won the prestigious Golden Horse Award for Best Documentary. This achievement was followed by the creation of his first short film, "The End of The Tunnel," which earned him a Golden Horse Award nomination for Best Short in 2008.
In 2012, Chang's first feature film, "Touch of the Light," premiered, and it was presented by acclaimed director Wong Kar-Wai. The film represented Taiwan in the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and won Chang the Golden Horse Award for Best New Director.
In 2013, Chang was invited to direct the short film "Mr. Chang's New Address" for the "Taipei Factory" project, a collaborative endeavor between the Taipei Film Commission and the Director's Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival.
Chang's second feature, "Partners in Crime," was released in 2014 and received nominations at the Toronto, Busan, and Tokyo film festivals. His third feature, "Edge of Innocence," was adapted from a novel by Shimada Soji and released in 2016. This marked the first time Chang had adapted a novel for the screen.
Chang's latest feature, "We Are Champions," a basketball film, premiered in 2020 and earned him the Taipei Film Award for Best Director. The film also received numerous Golden Horse Award nominations, cementing Chang's reputation as a talented and versatile filmmaker.
