Charles Mesure was born on August 12, 1970, in Somerset, England, and moved to Australia with his family when he was just five years old. He spent his childhood growing up in Sydney, where he developed a strong passion for the performing arts.
Mesure's educational background includes studying law at the University of Sydney and later attending the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney, where he graduated in 1995. During his time at NIDA, he was actively involved in the school's dramatic society, SUDS, and even sang tenor in an a cappella group called Cinco.
After graduating from NIDA, Mesure moved to New Zealand, where he landed his first TV gig on the show "City Life." He also appeared in several plays at the Court and Circa theatres, and won the Best Supporting Actor award in 2003 for his role as DSS Kees Van Dam on "Street Legal."
In 2004, Mesure relocated to the United States, where he secured guest roles on several hit TV series, including "Crossing Jordan" and "Without a Trace." He went on to appear in several other shows, including "Outrageous Fortune," "Kaitangata Twitch," and "This Is Not My Life," earning a nomination for Best Actor in the TV Guide "Best on the Box" People's Choice Awards for his work on "Outrageous Fortune."
Mesure returned to the United States in 2009 and was cast in the recurring role of mercenary Kyle Hobbes on the TV series "V." He was a regular on the show's second season, which concluded in March 2011.
In July 2011, Mesure was cast in the role of Ben Faulkner on the eighth and final season of "Desperate Housewives." Ben was a self-made construction millionaire with a charming yet ruthless personality, who quickly became a central figure on the show. Mesure's character married Renee Perry in the series finale.
In 2013, Mesure traveled to South Africa to film an episode of the TV movie "Marple: A Caribbean Mystery," based on Agatha Christie's novel, and to Miami for a final-season episode of "Burn Notice," where he played a criminal computer expert.
In January 2014, Mesure filmed an action role in an episode of "The Mentalist," before traveling to Vancouver to play the role of Blackbeard in the TV series "Once Upon a Time." He shared scenes with Colin O'Donoghue's character, Captain Hook, and described Blackbeard's costume as the coolest he had ever worn.
