After successfully completing his high school education, Cartas made a concerted effort to enroll in the prestigious CCC and CUEC institutions, only to be met with repeated disappointment and rejection. The talented Cartas further honed his cinematic skills by participating in a film workshop at the prestigious San Antonio de los Baños Film School in Cuba during the year 1998.
