Cartas, a multifaceted creative force, embarked on his artistic journey in Durango, where his mother played a pivotal role as the state's production coordinator. It was during this formative period that photographer Alex Phillips Jr., a close family friend, presented him with a VHS camera, igniting a spark that would ultimately fuel his creative pursuits.
As a youngster, Cartas would often collaborate with his friends to produce amateur recordings, unwittingly laying the foundation for a future that would be deeply rooted in the film industry.
After successfully completing his high school education, Cartas made a concerted effort to enroll in the prestigious CCC and CUEC institutions, only to be met with repeated disappointment and rejection. Undaunted by these setbacks, he decided to relocate to the vibrant city of Guadalajara, where he secured a position as a photographer for video commercials, utilizing his creative skills to capture the essence of his subjects. During this period, he also had the opportunity to hone his expertise in erotic still photography at the renowned Hospicio Cabañas, a renowned institution that has been a hub for artistic expression since its establishment in the 18th century. This pivotal period of study and work would ultimately prove to be a crucial stepping stone in his future endeavors, providing him with the technical proficiency and artistic vision necessary to bring his innovative ideas to life.
The talented Cartas further honed his cinematic skills by participating in a film workshop at the prestigious San Antonio de los Baños Film School in Cuba during the year 1998. This esteemed institution, renowned for its rigorous film-making programs, provided Cartas with a unique opportunity to refine his craft and stay abreast of the latest industry trends.
Cartas' professional trajectory has been intricately linked with that of acclaimed filmmaker Fernando Sariñana, whose creative endeavors Cartas has had the privilege of being a part of as a photographer. In fact, their collaborative efforts have had a profound impact on the development of Cartas' distinct photographic style and artistic perspective.
