Chris Columbus

Chris Columbus was born in Pennsylvania, but spent his formative years in Ohio, where his passion for filmmaking was first ignited at the tender age of 15, following a life-changing viewing of Francis Ford Coppola's iconic masterpiece, "Thefather God". Columbus's academic pursuits took him to New York University, where he enrolled in the prestigious film school. During his sophomore year, he penned his first screenplay, which unfortunately remained unproduced. Undeterred, Columbus continued to hone his craft, and after graduating, he attempted to sell his fourth script, "Gremlins", to no avail. However, his perseverance paid off when the renowned Steven Spielberg optioned the project, and Columbus relocated to Los Angeles for a year, working alongside Spielberg in his bungalow at Universal Studios during the rewriting process. This stint marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between the two filmmakers, with Columbus subsequently writing two more screenplays for Spielberg, "The Goonies" and "Young Sherlock Holmes". Columbus's own directorial career was launched a few years later with the successful "Adventures in Babysitting". His subsequent endeavors, including the blockbuster "Home Alone", written and produced by John Hughes, and its sequel "Home Alone 2", solidified his reputation as a master storyteller. Most recently, Columbus brought his unique brand of humor and heart to the big screen with the beloved comedy "Mrs. Doubtfire".
