Christoph Schneider, the talented drummer of the German industrial metal band Rammstein, was born in Pankow, East Berlin, East Germany. He has a younger sister and left high school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in telecommunications as an assistant.
In 1984, Schneider served his national service with the East German Army, making him the only Rammstein member to have done so. His parents, who valued classical music, wanted him to learn an instrument, so they sent him to a special school connected to a pioneering socialist orchestra. Schneider chose to play the trumpet, which he found easy to learn, and after a year, he joined the orchestra, playing concerts and becoming increasingly interested in the drums.
Despite his parents' initial disapproval, Schneider was drawn to the drums and would often sneak glances at the drum set during trumpet performances. He eventually convinced his parents to let him learn to play the drums, and at the age of 14, he bought his first drum kit, after which they reluctantly accepted his new hobby.
Schneider values his privacy and keeps his personal life largely out of the spotlight. He is married to Regina Gizatulina from Russia, and his nickname "Doom" originated from the video game of the same name. The name was chosen when Schneider needed a pseudonym for the German copyright agency, as there were already too many Christoph Schneiders. Paul Landers, the band's guitarist, suggested the name "Doom" because they were fans of the game. Schneider has since expressed that if he knew the name would appear on every record he played on, he might have chosen a different one.
