Biography

Clarence Badger, a distinguished alumnus of the esteemed Boston Polytechnic Institute, embarked upon a multifaceted early career as an artist, stage actor, editor, and journalist, making significant contributions to prominent publications such as "The Youth's Companion", a respected and widely circulated periodical of its time.

In the year 1915, Badger joined the renowned Mack Sennett's Triangle-Keystone, a leading film production company of the era, and swiftly leveraged his diverse skillset to ascend to the position of writer/director for numerous two-reel situation comedies.

Notably, Badger's approach to filmmaking was characterized by subtlety, gentleness, and a focus on character development, which differentiated his work from the prevailing slapstick style that dominated the industry at the time.

Many of his early shorts featured a young and rising star, Gloria Swanson, who was just beginning to establish herself as a prominent figure in the world of cinema.

In the year 1917, a renowned filmmaker named Badger was enticed away from his previous association with Sennett to join the prestigious team of Samuel Goldwyn, who entrusted him with the responsibility of directing a series of comedic films featuring the charismatic Will Rogers.

Among these notable comedies were the small-town farce "Jubilo", which was released in 1919, "Doubling for Romeo", which premiered in 1921, and "Honest Hutch", which was showcased in 1920.

Throughout the 1920s, Badger's prolific career continued to flourish as he worked for the esteemed film studios of Paramount and Metro.

During this period, he directed a plethora of films that would go on to become iconic in the world of cinema, including the Civil War-set romp "Hands Up!", which was released in 1926, "Potash and Perlmutter", which premiered in 1923, and the romantic comedy that catapulted the enigmatic Clara Bow to stardom, "It", which was showcased in 1927.

In addition to his work with these notable stars, Badger had the privilege of directing some of the most prominent names in the industry, including the radiant Colleen Moore, the talented Betty Compson, the charming Jack Buchanan, and the captivating Bebe Daniels.

Notable among the directorial endeavors of this filmmaker, executed under the auspices of Warner Brothers/First National, is the spirited screen adaptation of the Broadway musical phenomenon "No, No, Nanette", which premiered in 1930 and remains a standout in his oeuvre.

Notably, in the year 1935, the individual in question made a significant move, departing from his elaborate Spanish colonial-style mansion situated in the renowned Hollywood Hills region, and subsequently relocated to the vast and beautiful country of Australia.
