David Packard Corenswet is an American actor, best known for his portrayal of Superman in the DCU. His father, John Corenswet, was a stage actor who later became a lawyer, while his grandfather, Edward Packard, was an author and creator of the Choose Your Own Adventure book series.
Corenswet attended the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, before transferring to the Juilliard School in New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama in 2016. He began acting at a young age, appearing in numerous theater productions, including Arden Theatre's production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons, the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival's production of Macbeth, and the Walnut Street Theatre's production of La Vie En Bleu.
Corenswet co-wrote and co-produced the web series Moe & Jerryweather with his friend Adam Langdon from 2014 to 2016. He also appeared in several guest roles in TV shows such as House of Cards, Elementary, and Instinct.
Corenswet's breakthrough role came in 2019 when he portrayed River Barkley in Ryan Murphy's The Politician, followed by a lead role in Murphy's Hollywood in 2020. He also co-starred in HBO's We Own This City, Netflix's Look Both Ways, and Ti West's Pearl.
In 2024, Corenswet co-starred in Searchlight Pictures' The Greatest Hits and appeared in Twisters alongside Glen Powell. He also had a recurring role in the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake alongside Natalie Portman.
On June 27, 2023, it was announced that Corenswet had been cast as the next Superman in Superman (2025),written and directed by James Gunn and produced by Peter Safran alongside Rachel Brosnahan. The movie began filming on February 29, 2024, and concluded on July 30, 2024, with a scheduled release date of July 11, 2025.
