David Garrett was born David Bongarz on September 4, 1980, in Aachen, Germany. His father is a lawyer, and his mother is a classical ballerina. He has an older brother, Alexander, who was taking violin lessons at the time, and David began imitating his brother by teaching himself to play the violin at the age of four.
