David's life journey began on November 2, 1972, when he first entered the world. His early years were spent on Long Island, New York, where he grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture and scenery of the region. As he progressed through his education, he attended Harvard College, graduating in 1994. However, it was during his junior year abroad in Japan that he discovered a newfound passion for film, which would eventually become a defining aspect of his career. While at Kyoto University, he joined the Kyoto University Film Club, further nurturing his creative talents.
After completing his undergraduate studies, David went on to pursue his graduate degree at the University of Southern California (USC) film school, graduating in the year 2000. His thesis film, Bean Cake, was released in 2002 and went on to achieve significant success, winning numerous awards at prestigious film festivals around the world. One of the most notable accolades he received was the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, a testament to his exceptional filmmaking skills and dedication to his craft.
