David Lochary, a former best friend of Divine, was a striking individual with dyed silver hair, who first met the future Waters star in a beauty school in Baltimore, Maryland. According to Divine, he had never even heard the term "drag" before David, and Lochary would later assist with his makeup and wigs at parties, predating his work with Van Smith. Divine introduced Lochary to Waters in the mid-1960s, and he quickly became one of Waters' closest collaborators, known as the "Dreamlanders," making his debut in the 8mm underground film Roman Candles in 1966.
Lochary typically portrayed exotically-dressed, sophisticated perverts who posed a threat, only to ultimately lose to Divine in Waters' films. After the release of Pink Flamingos in 1972, Lochary relocated to New York to pursue a career in theater, but returned to Baltimore to participate in the production of Female Trouble in 1974. Unfortunately, he began to drift away from the Dreamlanders after that. Tragically, Lochary allegedly passed away in his New York apartment, succumbing to bleeding to death after falling on a glass while under the influence of PCP, shortly after the release of Desperate Living, Waters' first film without him and Divine, in 1977.
