Mark McGillivray, a multifaceted writer with a storied career, initially made a name for himself as a film journalist and occasional actor. His early work as a contributor to the magazine "Films and Filming" and assistant editor of the British Film Institute's "Monthly Film Bulletin" laid the groundwork for his subsequent foray into screenwriting, penning scripts for director Pete Walker and authoring the book "Doing Rude Things".
McGillivray's transition to theatre led to his collaboration with his own company on writing farces, during which time he crossed paths with rising stand-up comedian Julian Clary, with whom he would later continue to work. This marked the beginning of a long-term creative partnership.
In the early 2000s, McGillivray turned his attention to short horror films, producing a series of terrifying tales that would eventually be compiled into the portmanteau film "Worst Fears". This was followed by the production of the short film "Trouser Bar", which briefly gained widespread attention in 2016.
A new edition of "Doing Rude Things" was published in 2017, and McGillivray's autobiography, "Little Did You Know", was released in 2019. The following year, he presented a chat show, "Live at 5", on the video sharing platform Likee, although the programme was subsequently removed due to McGillivray's alleged "transgression of community standards".
The show was rebranded as "Little Did You Know" and relocated to YouTube, where it ran until 2021. McGillivray has since returned to his horror roots, commencing work on a new series of short films in 2025, with the first installment being "My Best Friends".
