David X. Cohen

David S. Cohen, a distinguished alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, earned his academic credentials in the field of theoretical computer science. Interestingly, his original name is David 'S.' Cohen, which he used during his tenure on the renowned animated television series, The Simpsons, back in 1989. However, when he began working on the equally acclaimed Futurama in 1999, he decided to join the prestigious Writer's Guild, the television writers' union. As fate would have it, there was already a David S. Cohen registered with the organization, and its bylaws prohibit members from sharing the same name. To circumvent this issue, Cohen opted for the unconventional middle initial "X", which he felt possessed a certain "sci-fi-ish" flair.
