Dean Harrington has been professionally involved in the film and video production industry for over two decades. Initially trained at the renowned Julian Theatre Company in San Francisco during the early 1970s, he embarked on a career as a stuntman and actor in the Hong Kong film industry in the 1980s, collaborating with esteemed directors and actors such as John Woo and Ringo Lam, and contributing to the Hong Kong film scene of that era.
In addition to his work in Hong Kong, Dean has also been involved in US, European, and Japanese film productions, including the notable film "Returner" directed by Takashi Yamazaki. His voice work has been prominent in the Japanese game industry since its inception, with credits including commercials, documentaries, corporate videos, and feature films.
Dean's technical expertise in filmmaking developed while working as an assistant sound-FX editor with William Oliver on the Hong Kong feature "Big Heat" in the 1980s. He subsequently collaborated with independent filmmaker Karl Neubert on the award-winning film "Turns of the Wheel" and produced his first documentary, "In the World of Acupuncture," shot in China and Japan on Hi-8 video in the 1990s.
As one of the founding directors of "Tokyo International Film Shorts" in the late 1990s, Dean oversaw the event, which was held at the prestigious Blue Note Jazz Club in Tokyo. Currently, he serves as a producer and director at SpinfishTV in Tokyo, bringing his wealth of experience and vision to video production, encompassing both in-front-of-the-camera and behind-the-scenes work.
Dean is also a noted practitioner and teacher of the internal arts of China, with over 35 years of involvement. He teaches Guang Ping Yang Tai Chi Chuan in Tokyo, combining his passion for the internal arts with his expertise in film and video production.
