Biography

Douglas Swander is a multifaceted American performer, boasting a diverse array of talents that have garnered him recognition in the realms of music, film, and television. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Swander's early career began at the tender age of nineteen, when he took on the role of Herb in a regional touring company of the iconic musical, "Godspell."

By the time he turned twenty, Swander had become the regular singer fronting a nine-piece band on the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati for the regional daily live variety television show, "The Bob Braun Show." This early success paved the way for his subsequent move to Nashville, Tennessee, where he spent the next decade honing his craft as a singer and songwriter.

During his time in Nashville, Swander became a regular on the Grand Ole Opry's WSM 650 Radio Show, "The Waking Crew," and simultaneously appeared on the NBC affiliate's daily live variety television show, "Channel Four Magazine." He also studied under the acclaimed vocal coach, Renee Grant-Williams, and became a facilitator for her Master Class.

As a singer, Swander's voice was recorded for The Epic Label of Sony, resulting in over one hundred demos and thirty jingles. As a songwriter, he was a staff member with Warner/Chappell Music Publishing for five years, during which his song catalog garnered twelve album cuts and four released singles.

In early 2001, Swander relocated to Los Angeles, where he continued to pursue his passions in music, film, and television. He has since performed alongside numerous legendary artists, including Henry Mancini, Ray Price, Michael McDonald, David Foster, Tammy Wynette, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Bill Medley, to name a few.

As an actor, Swander has appeared in over a dozen national commercials, working with renowned directors such as John Dykstra and Steve Steigman. He has also been directed by esteemed filmmakers like Joe Johnston, James Foley, Jon Favreau, Sam Raimi, and Mike Elliott.

Throughout his career, Swander has had the privilege of working with accomplished acting coaches, including Allan Rich and Julie Ariola. Currently residing in Los Angeles, his recent projects have included SAG-AFTRA Radio Plays and performances with the 16-piece swing bands, The Angel City Big Band and The Horace Heidt Jr. Big Band.

Swander is currently writing, narrating, and composing music for an original series of short cowboy stories inspired by his long-time friend, mentor, and co-star of Rawhide - Sheb Wooley.
