Elbert, a Los Feliz, Los Angeles native, embarked on his academic journey at the University of California, Berkeley, where he dedicated himself to pursuing his undergraduate studies. Following the successful completion of his law school education, Elbert made the decision to relocate to Boston, where he currently resides.
Elbert's remarkable prowess on the mat led to his receipt of the esteemed Male Collegiate MVP of the Year award during his junior year, a testament to his outstanding performance and dedication to the sport. Furthermore, he had the distinguished honor of representing the United States at the World University Taekwondo Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he showcased his exceptional skills and secured a bronze medal, a remarkable achievement that solidified his position among the top athletes in the world. Additionally, Elbert holds a prestigious 7th degree black belt with the World Taekwondo Federation, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the art and his continued growth as a martial artist.
Elbert's Taekwondo journey commenced under the expert tutelage of his father, the esteemed Master Yong Kil Kim, who pioneered one of the initial Taekwondo academies in Los Angeles, dating back to the early 1970s.
This pioneering school, situated on Vermont Avenue, directly across from Los Angeles City College, had gained immense popularity, drawing students who would frequently make appearances on Saturday Night Live alongside John Belushi's iconic Samurai character during its formative years.
Elbert has ventured beyond his typical creative pursuits, exploring new avenues of artistic expression by taking on a diverse range of acting roles in recent years. One notable example of his expanded creative endeavors is his portrayal of a personal attorney for the character played by Marlee Matlin in the 2022 Oscar Best Picture-winning film "CODA". Furthermore, he appeared in the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival-sponsored production "Lucky Grandma", alongside the talented Tsai Chin. Additionally, Elbert made a memorable appearance in the Hulu comedy "Vacation Friends", starring John Cena, Meredith Hagner, and Robert Wisdom, where he brought to life the character of Dr. Albert Kim.
