Biography

Eric Stow Hatch, a renowned American novelist, was born in the vibrant city of New York in the year 1901. His father, an investment banker with strong ties to Wall Street, played a significant role in shaping Hatch's early life. At the tender age of seventeen, Hatch made the bold decision to drop out of school and join his father's esteemed firm, where he would spend the next decade honing his skills.

However, Hatch's illustrious career was temporarily interrupted by the tumultuous events of World War I. During this time, he served a two-year stint with the New York National Guard, demonstrating his dedication to his country.

Upon the war's conclusion, Hatch returned to his Wall Street roots, but his creative impulses remained strong. Even as he navigated the fast-paced world of finance, he continued to craft compelling stories and submit them for publication. By 1928, his writing prowess had earned him sufficient recognition to allow him to devote himself full-time to his craft.

As his reputation grew, so did the attention from Hollywood. Hatch's most enduring legacy is arguably his captivating story, "My Man Godfrey," which would eventually be adapted into the beloved classic film, My Man Godfrey, released in 1936.

Eric Hatch's remarkable journey came to a close on July 4, 1973, when he passed away in Torrington, Connecticut.
