Eric Johnson has embarked on a remarkable musical journey spanning over four decades, effortlessly blending and transcending genres such as rock, blues, jazz, fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical, and country.
As he so eloquently puts it, "It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day," he explains. "If it doesn't have that, it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project."
This sentiment is reflected in his latest studio album, EJ Vol II, which follows the critically acclaimed all-acoustic collection EJ from 2016. The new album features nine original compositions and four covers, showcasing Johnson's versatility and masterful musicianship.
Throughout his illustrious career, Johnson has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy award for "Cliffs Of Dover" from his Platinum-certified album Ah Via Musicom, as well as lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats and a listing among the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century" by Musician.
In his hometown of Austin, Texas, Johnson has been consistently recognized as one of the city's top guitarists, earning the titles of "Best Electric Guitarist" and "Best Acoustic Guitarist" in the Austin Chronicle's yearly poll, as well as "Electric Guitarist of the Decade" and one of the top five "Musicians of the Decade."
Johnson's approach to music is rooted in his desire to create a healing force that enhances a listener's consciousness and inspires joy and creativity. As he says, "That's what I've always appreciated most about other artists. Some artists inspire us to wake up and get back to the clarity of consciousness. With this record, I'm trying to do that too, because I appreciate it so much in other people."
