Erik Thomson is a Scottish-born New Zealand actor who has had a successful career in both New Zealand and Australia. Born in Inverness, Scotland, he moved to New Zealand with his family at the age of seven and developed a passion for theatre at primary school. He went on to study English Literature at Victoria University Wellington and was selected to attend the national drama school, Toi Whakaari/ New Zealand Drama School.
After graduating, Erik worked extensively in theatre in New Zealand before moving to Australia in 1995. He has since enjoyed a successful career in both television and film, appearing in a wide range of productions.
Erik's film credits include roles in STORM BOY, THE BOYS ARE BACK, SOMERSAULT, THE BLACK BALLOON, and WE'RE HERE TO HELP, among others. He has received numerous award nominations for his performances, including an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Film Critics Circle of Australia Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
In television, Erik has appeared in a number of popular series, including PACKED TO THE RAFTERS, THE CODE, THE BROKEN SHORE, and BLACKJACK: DEAD MEMORY, among others. He has been nominated for a number of awards for his television work, including the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor Award.
Erik has also had a successful career in theatre, appearing in productions for the Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Auckland Theatre Company, and Court Theatre, among others. His theatre credits include roles in THE SPEECHMAKER, THE SPLINTER, JULIUS CAESAR, TWELVE ANGRY MEN, ALL MY SONS, ANGELS IN AMERICA, SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL, HAMLET, and GYPSY.
Erik is set to appear in a number of upcoming productions, including BLACK SNOW, BLUEBACK, and CAUGHT. He has also completed production on the ABC series AFTERTASTE and is in production on the highly anticipated return of the popular series BACK TO THE RAFTERS for Amazon.
