Person Biography:
Michael Buica, a renowned actor, coach, and teacher, has had a illustrious career spanning over three decades. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, where he studied with the legendary Sanford Meisner.
Buica's early career saw him work extensively with notable figures in the industry, including George Shdanoff, Uta Hagen, and Michael Howard. He has been coaching and teaching actors since 1991, leading workshops in various approaches such as Grotowski, Michael Chekhov, and Meisner.
As the Artistic Director and Founder of The Acting Corps, Buica has developed unique training processes reflected in the Actors' Boot Camp and other programs. The Acting Corps has trained over 4,000 actors, with 1,400 of them acquiring film and TV credits and having their own IMDB pages.
Buica has also written and directed for the theater, with his play "Parachute" winning accolades from the Los Angeles Times for its debut production at Hollywood's Theater East. He has appeared in numerous films, television shows, and commercials, and has acted in over 50 stage productions.
Some of his notable roles include starring in "The Sound of Music" on Broadway, "Coriolanus" at Princeton's McCarter Theater, and his own adaptation of "The Swan" at Lincoln Center.
Recently, Buica launched the grand opening of The Acting Corps' in-house stage, The Americano Theater, with an inaugural production of David Mamet's "Speed the Plow." His book, "90 Days of Rants, Observations, and Meditations for The Actor," is due to be published in November 2012.
Throughout his career, Buica has worked with notable guest speakers, including Academy Award-winning filmmaker and actor Sydney Pollack, Peter Facinelli, Ethan Embry, and Rainn Wilson, who have also taught acting at The Acting Corps' Actor's Boot Camp.
As a result of The Acting Corps' growing prominence, Buica was asked to judge TNT's Dramatic Auditions National Competition alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Dennis Franz.
